Penn Medicine wanted an iPad application for the students studying at University of Pennsylvania for specific medical fields that would assist them staying active and applying their best foot forward in the medical field with other students. The iPad application, mLearning, allow students to connect and do their courses at University of Pennsylvania.
The approach I took when working with the design director at Transmogrify was to keep this a fun but serious product for students, professors and professionals in the medical field. I did not want to overwhelm the viewer with overly bright colors but give a sense that it appeared medical but avoiding the corporate feel.
The logo definition had many variations but I mainly wanted to focus on the idea of incorporating a book, a graduate hat associating it to studying/learning along with bringing the letter m to relate it to the name, mLearning. After several iterations, it came down to blending all three into one final logo.
The overall design of the application was definitely geared to be welcoming and friendly for professionals and students, but of course, avoiding the dullness of a plain white hospital room. The design is meant to make studying fun. The user experience aspect of the application was important because I wanted to make sure that students, being one myself, didn't want to become frustrated in finding certain things that were crucial.
The app, mLearning for Penn Medicine, is currently available on the App Store for iOS specfically for students at University of Pennsylvania.
